Position Summary
In this position, the Adult Flight Team RN provides care designed to meet individual emergent, urgent and non-urgent patient needs during helicopter and fixed wing flight in order to maintain for the safe transport and care of patients in the air.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Flight Team Responsibilities
  • Assesses patient’s physical condition and psychosocial health status upon initial examination and during flight, providing care as appropriate to stabilize the patient in transport until destination is reached
  • Assists in determining post-Flight care needs and resources available to the patient
  • Ensures scene safety principals are observed first in relation to crew safety, then patient care safety
  • Utilizes appropriate resources to assist in identification and stabilization of high-risk situations and provides interventions as indicated for patient need and comfort.
  • Responds to comfort needs of the patient and requests from patient/family for information
  • Responsible for assisting with the safety and operations associated with air transport in rotor and fixed wing aircrafts
  • Interfaces with pre-hospital personnel via radio or in person, taking report and writing down information
  • Collaborates with facility healthcare teams to ensure accurate plan of care communication
  • Obtains and maintains applicable skills and competencies per HelpFlight medical direction guidelines and the flight education committee
  • Requirements are representative of the minimum level of knowledge, skills and/or abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position

    1. Current Montana Registered Nurse licensure
    2. Associates  (BSN required within 48 months)
    3. Current BLS, ACLS and PALS certification
    4. Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a critical care department such as ICU or Emergency Department
    5. CFRN certification required within 2-years of hire
    6. Current NRP certification or ability to obtain within six months of hire date
    7. Current TPATC certification or ability to obtain within eighteen months of hire date
    8. Must be able to pass a physical health assessment examination upon hire and annually thereafter
    9. Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically within a multi-functional team
    10. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
    11. Ability to successfully function in a fast paced, service oriented environment
    12. Experience in understanding and usage of computers and ability to learn new programs relevant to the position
