Performs phlebotomy (venipuncture, fingerstick, heelstick) according to established procedures, including appropriately identifying patients using 2 patient identifiers and properly labeling specimens and specimen containers.
Identifies patients and properly labels specimen tubes.
Determines priority of STAT draws; ensures timely transport of all patient specimens to the lab for testing.
Organizes assigned work and accurately completes workload statistics.
Acts as a receptionist, greet patients, and answer phones in the laboratory as required.
Responsible for daily cleaning of equipment and maintaining neatness throughout the department.
Records daily temperatures of all refrigerators in the phlebotomy areas.
Responsible for ordering supplies and maintaining sufficient inventory to efficiently operate phlebotomy services.
Coordinates the training of new associates and students.
Reference Testing: complex order entry/result entry/charge posting and invoice reconciliation; packing and shipping infectious materials
Microbiology: perform complex specimens set-up and related departmental procedures
POCT: testing/resulting/quality control/maintenance procedures/competency assessment
Complex billing investigation; coding laboratory accounts and medical necessity review
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Experience: Greater than 3 months
Certifications: ASCP Phlebotomy or Donor Technician Certification preferred
