The Director of Grateful Patient Fundraising Programs will oversee the creation, implementation, and management of SCL Health’s comprehensive grateful patient and family fundraising program. The goals are to operationalize a program that builds a pipeline of grateful patient prospects and revenue, engages clinicians, administrators, volunteers and others in the grateful patient process, and assists in creating a culture of gratitude throughout SCL Health System.   • Serve as the project manager, working with outside counsel, on the implementation and coordination of the daily operations of the grateful patient fundraising program.

  • Work with Foundation leaders to assist in the implementation of the grateful patient fundraising program.

  • Work with SCL Health’s Foundation Operations team and the System Philanthropy Team on the design, development, implementation and measurement of the infrastructure components of the grateful patient fundraising program.

  • Meet with Foundation representatives, and leaders at various locations including System Services including, but not limited to, senior executives, department chairs, division heads, program directors, administrators, physicians, nurses and others to strengthen and expand the grateful patient fundraising program.

  • Coordinate the training and educational initiatives of the program across the system.

  • Collaborate with Foundation representatives to design and implement a best-in-class stewardship program for grateful patient donors.

  • Collaborate with Foundation representatives and others to develop materials for the grateful patient fundraising program, especially for increasing the visibility of the program.

  • Ensure best practices identified in one of more of the SCL Health’s Foundations is recognized and shared with the larger team.

  • Provide a quarterly report to Health System and Foundation leadership on the success of each Foundation with the implementation of their grateful patient fundraising program.

  • Design clinician recognition programs to highlight the success of clinicians working in the program.

  • Participation in regular Foundation meetings as directed.  Attend events/special functions as requested.

  • Ensure HIPAA compliance of the SCL Health Foundations in the implementation of the program.ce indicators such as number of educated clinicians, number of engaged clinicians, number of grateful patient referrals, number of visits by gift officers, number of qualified prospects, number of proposals, value of proposals, number of closed gifts, and value of closed gifts, along with other key measures. The individual will also be involved in annual fund, major gift, communication and operational projects for the program.




  • Bachelor's Degree required, Graduate Degree preferred.
  • Min. 10 years of paid fundraising experience, working within the full spectrum of development, including cultivation, gift solicitations, stewardship, and donor recognition.
  • Min. 5 years’ direct experience with gift planning in healthcare or a similar complex setting, including demonstrated personal success soliciting and closing a full range of gift planning strategies.
  • Min. 5 years’ experience managing fundraising personnel.
