Oversees the daily operations needs of the technical department providign ongoing support for staff activities to ensure effective and efficient services are consistently provided. This encompasses working with scheduling, timekeeping, supply order, acquisition, and inventory utilizing such tools as KRONOS and LAWSON; customer service through patient, departmental and staff interface. Provides bench technologist duties as needed to maintain workflow.
Management of personnel; to include hiring, orientation, evaluation & counseling of staff; competency documentation with assistance of other staff personnel; education and training of facility and laboratory topics; and overall safety practices. Maintenance of personnel records.
Responsibility for regulatory and legal compliance of the technical area of responsibility; including maintaining the technical area to FDA, CAP, AABB and/or state regulatory requirments. Monitor as needed to maintain compliance with SOP, state, federal and regulatory agency accreditation requirements. Ensures timely, thorough investigation, follow-up, implementation of corrective actions related to incidents deviating from standard operating procedures. Developes/revises standards, policies, procedures to meet the needs of the department and all regulatory bodies.
Works with laboratory director to manage an effective, comprehensive performance improvement process that is outcome driven, utilizes LEAN principles, and establishes a culture of excellence in quality and service. Uses these principles to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions for improvements.
Responsibility for budget (operation and capital- planning & monitoring); assistance to the director for meeting facility goals.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Medical Technology or Science
3 or more years MT (ASCP) experience with progressive leadership.
