Registered Nurse - RN - Outpatient Oncology Chemo Infusion

This position is for a per diem RN in an Outpatient Chemo Infusion setting.

Department hours are Monday - Friday from 8-5, schedule would be on an as needed basis.

The Registered Nurse will provide direct patient care, meeting both psychological and physical needs of the patients in accordance with physicians’ orders, Joint Commission, OSHA, nursing and department guidelines. The RN fulfills these duties to contribute to the continuity and quality of care which fosters the best interest and well-being of all patients and their families.

Unit Specific Competency:
Chemotherapy Administration:
●Knowledge of Chemotherapy Agent's action, toxicities, and goals.
●Routes of Chemotherapy Administration.
●Vesicant and Extravasation Protocol.
●Safe handling and disposal, storage and transportation.
●Hazardous drug spills.
●Patient and family education and support.
●Review pertinent lab values and chemotherapy order.
●Conduct physical assessment.
●Calculate and verify dose.
●Yearly Chemotherapy Competency Course or equivalent.
Vascular Access Devices:
●Purpose and description of device.
●Care of implanted ports, tunneled catheters, and PICC lines.
●Signs and symptoms of access device complications.
●Pertinent documentation of all Vascular Access Devices.
●Patient and family education and support.
●Cathflow-Activase for restoring catheter patency.
Specialty Clinic Management:
●Complete patient registration, obtain pertinent information and maintain flow of specialty clinic.
●Triage patients and phone calls appropriately and efficiently.
●Assist MD with procedures.
●Schedule patients for lab tests, X-rays & other procedures and follow up care.
●Maintain continuity of care for chemotherapy patients while promoting a safe environment.

Education, Experience, and Licensure/Certification Requirements: Requirements are representative of minimum level of knowledge, skills, and/or abilities.


1. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

2. Current MT RN Licensure.

3. Current Certification in BLS.

4. ACLS certification and kept current.

5. Chemotherapy Competency or equivalent every 2 years.
