The coding audit & educator performs physician and coder audits to verify accuracy of submitted codes based on documentation. Identifies trends and educational opportunities to improve processing, coding, and documentation. May provide education to physicians and/or coders based on audit findings. May also serve on coding related committees.
Use appropriate code books, tools, and automated coding systems to determine appropriate codes based upon documentation.
Performs physician and coder audits using standardized tools and completes within given timeframes.
Summarizes audit findings into reports.
Position is a partially remote position. Associate must be available for periodic local travel to provide onsite education when needed.
High School Diploma
3+ years of experience
Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist Physician (CCS-P)
Computer skill and 10-key typing proficiency
Computer software skills with MS Office products
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
5+ years’ experience
Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA)
Certified Healthcare Auditor (CHCA)
Or other specialty coding certification through AAPC.
Familiar with coding software such as Encoder Pro or 3M.
