Provides legal services, assists with internal investigations, prepares and reviews legal documents, and provides in-service education on legal issues for regulatory and compliance matters throughout the System.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves as primary in-house counsel on compliance and regulatory matters and to the System Audit and Compliance departments. Collaborates with the Chief Legal Officer, Deputy General Counsel and the Chief Compliance Officer to ensure that SCL Health has the appropriate controls, policies, procedures and systems in place to support its continued growth.
Assists the Chief Legal Officer and the Deputy General Counsel with advising business executives on legal compliance and federal and state regulatory matters. Retains, supervises and coordinates the assistance of outside counsel and other expert consultants.
Provides or arranges for appropriate in-service education on legal issues.
Provides legal and policy advice, information, and drafting assistance on a variety corporate policies and regulatory guidance. Reviews and approves a variety of System, Care Site and for-profit subsidiaries policies, procedures, and programs for potential legal problems.
Assists with identification, investigation and resolution of legal compliance issues for the System and Care Sites, including identification of significant risk areas and scope of audit review.
Receives, supervises and/or delegates significant legal compliance issues for investigation, compliant verification, corrective action development and implementation, as appropriate. Supervises internal and external regulatory and/or accreditation inquiries or investigations; interfaces with other System Services departments, as appropriate.
In collaboration with the Chief Legal Officer, the Deputy General Counsel and the Chief Compliance Officer, represents the System, Affiliates, and for-profit subsidiaries to courts, government agencies, etc. regarding complex legal problems and/or issues.
