In this position, the Clinic Certified Medical Assistant provides clinical care to patients and is responsible for patient care coordination, scheduling of tests and procedures, ensuring results of tests are received, reviewed by physician and communicated to patients. The Clinic Certified Medical Assistant adheres to all applicable state and federal laws, TJC and Quality Performance Guidelines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works directly with physicians/providers and clinic staff to ensure the provision of quality patient care.
Adheres to physician/provider direction. Ensures the completion of the care continuum.
Assesses patient needs, coordinates patient care, administers care and documents thoroughly.
Prepares exam room with the appropriate equipment before patient visits. Set up for all procedures and assist the provider during the patient visit as needed.
Administer and chart immunizations, injections and medications per guidelines.
Per provider request, perform tests on patients such as EKG’s, Oximetry, Spirometry, U A’s, audiometry, eye exam, etc.
Keep assigned rooms stocked appropriately and complete individual nurse duties.
Complete paperwork and make call backs for providers as requested including calling in prescriptions, calling patients regarding test results, pulls and prepares charts calling for next day appointments.
Provides patient education related to medications, disease process, tests, etc.
Greets the patient and answers the telephone, communicates general practice information to patients and family members and provides patients with appropriate paperwork
Gathers accurate information by interviewing patients, verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics at each visit, accurately recording / updating information using registration software, and obtaining patient signatures as appropriate.
Collects co-payments, past due balances and payments at time of service.
Utilizing provider protocols, schedules appointments, referrals and diagnostic tests, and maintains updates and distributes schedule.
Pulls and prepares charts for visits, telephone calls, and per staff request, prioritizing based on urgency of request.
Prepares new records, repairs damaged records, archives files, and files charts and loose paperwork in a timely manner.
Ensure all test results, dictation and hospital reports are received, reviewed by the physician/provider, and filed in patient chart in a timely manner
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
• Minimum 3 months previous experience in a clinical setting
• Successful completion of Medical Assistant program from an accredited college or university
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
• Successful completion of AMT Certification Exam for Registered Medical Assistant within 18 months of hire
• Current BLS certification, required upon hire.
