Welcome to the Cardiac Catheterization Lab at Saint Joseph Hospital Cardiac & Vascular Institute, better known simply as the Cath Lab. Approximately 2,500 procedures are performed each year in our Cath Lab, making ours one of the busiest Cath Labs in Colorado.

We are seeking an experience Cath Lab Technician in a Cardiac Cath Lab unit, ED or ICU unit.

CV Lab or IR experience preferred. 

4 x 10 hour shifts. 

Call equals 10 days per month including a full weekend of call.

The Cath Lab has five state-of-the-art procedure rooms for performing numerous heart and vessel imaging studies and treatments. In the Cath Lab, highly trained specialists identify and diagnose heart problems, use medicines to dissolve blood clots, re-open blood vessels, and remove obstructions within blood vessels.

Within the Cath Lab is our specialized Electrophysiology Lab (EP). Here patients experiencing irregular heart rates (arrhythmias) can undergo diagnostic exams to identify the specific cause of the problem or to receive life-saving treatments such as pacemaker or defibrillator implants.

We have 2 cath labs, 3 EP labs, 2 hybrid labs, 1 multipurpose room, 3 IR suites.

We are an accredited chest pain center with strong STEMI program.

Our labs perform all forms of cardiac and peripheral interventional procedures; diagnose and treat all forms of cardiovascular disease including balloons, stents, rhythm management, peripheral vascular and structural heart. We work in teams of 3.  These teams consist of cardiovascular technologist, radiologic technologist and RN’s

CV Tech prepares, operates and maintains all equipment used in hemodynamic, angiographic and electrophysiologic catheterization procedures and permanent pacemaker implantation to assist Cardiologists in the diagnosis and treatment of patients suspected of suffering from heart disease.
  • Prepares for procedures by setting up supplies, a cardiac defibrillator, and by calibrating pressure gauges.
  • Sets up and operates recording and imaging equipment as required including a 16-channel hemodynamic records, 35mm cinema camera film magazines, an associated X-ray system with TV monitors, various videotape recorders and a digital imaging system.
  • Prepares patient by attaching ECG electrodes, answering questions and preparing skin for catheter insertion using sterile procedures.
  • Develops film taken during cine-angio portion of catheterization procedures by mixing developer and other chemicals used according to specifications and by operating film processor to provide diagnostic data.
  • Assists with electrophysiologic studies by setting up complicated lead field systems and stimuli leads, connecting them to a electrophysiologic recorder so intracardiac electrical phenomena may be studied.
  • Provides technical support to physicians in all catheterization procedures as part of the Cath Lab team.
  • Monitors patient's electrogram for abnormal ECG's. Records and monitors blood pressures received through catheters, and monitors patient's well-being during procedures. Alerts physician of abnormal conditions.
  • Instructs cardiology, fellow nurses, residents and medical students in the proper operation of equipment and procedures used in the Catheterization Laboratory.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, some of which may be essential to the job.
 

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education/ Experience

High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Diploma, Associate or Bachelor's degree in respiratory therapy, radiologic technology, or cardio vascular technology, or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) or Cardiovascular Cardiopulmonary Technologist / Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (CI registry)

Two (2) years of related experience in a catheterization laboratory, cardiology non-invasive laboratory or other cardiopulmonary area, preferred

Register with state of Colorado as Surgical Technician or Surgical Assistant, SCL requirement for CO state, before start date (receipt is acceptable)

 

CO Registry as Registered Respiratory Therapist is not required.

RCIS or RCES, within 6 months from hire required. Suggested strongly preferred for those that have no other Registry.

Lifting Requirements

Medium work. Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for light work.
