CORPORATE COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Keep abreast of all pertinent federal, state, and SCL Health regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified)

(Supervisors/Managers) Ensures that staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures specific to their jobs.

JOB SUMMARY

The Marillac Clinic Optometrist care for patients and diagnoses, manages, and treats conditions and diseases of the human eye and visual system.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Examine eyes, using observation, instruments, and pharmaceutical agents, to determine visual acuity and perception, focus and coordination.

Develop a treatment plan for management of diseases and conditions of the visual system. Prescribe medications to treat eye disease as state laws permit. Prescribe therapeutic procedures to correct or conserve vision.

Prescribe, supply, fit and adjust eyeglasses, contact lenses and other vision aids.

Remove foreign bodies from the eye.

Consult with and refer patients to an ophthalmologist or other health care practitioner if additional medical treatment is determined necessary.

Educate and counsel patients on contact lens care, visual hygiene, lighting arrangement and safety factors.

Provide patients undergoing eye surgeries, such as cataract and laser vision correction with pre- and post-operative care.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.

Collaborate with Clinic staff to ensure smooth operation of the optical program. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.

REQUIRED CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE (* indicates primary source verification requirement)

Education:

Graduate of a school or college of Optometry

Current Colorado license issued by the State Board of Optometry

Experience:

At least one (1) year experience desired

Previous non-profit and volunteer experience desirable.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

Interpersonal skills and sound judgment necessary to communicate with a wide variety of person, including the indigent, and to work with the Clinic staff in coordinating the optical services of the Clinic.

Ability to develop positive relationships.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Working Conditions:

Busy optical office in a medical clinic, well-lighted, heated, and ventilated.

Personal Contacts:

Clinic staff, patients, community representative.

Position requires work with the following products of substances:

Glass cleaner

LIFTING REQUIREMENTS:

Performs a variety of tasks that include sitting, standing, stopping, bending, and light to moderate lifting of 20 pounds maximum. Occasionally handles office equipment, materials and supplies.

OTHER

Addition to the responsibilities described above, the role may include such other responsibilities, and duties as assigned from time to time, based upon SCL Health needs or requirements, including possibly floating to another department. May be required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift
