Job Description:

Function as a part of the Spiritual Care Team to provide 24/7 Chaplain coverage of a Level II Trauma Center.  Supply shift coverage dependent on the needs of the department.  Respond to critical incidents in a timely manner.  Manage crisis situations, engage in spiritual assessments, provide education concerning Advanced Directives, assist staff with documentation, and serve as a designated requestor for tissue donation.

Must be able to work independently and triage situations as they arise.  Be practiced in responding to critical care events in Emergency Department and within the Intensive Care Environment.  Possess communication skills and a spirit of teamwork.  Willing to learn and actively participate in the mission, vision, and values of SCL Health and the Spiritual Care Department. 

 

 

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Theology or a related field.

·       Two completed units of Clinical Pastoral Education.

*     Two years’ experience as a Chaplain in a health care organization.

 

Preferred

·       Theological education appropriate for board certified chaplain. Master’s degree from an accredited university or seminary is required.

·       Four completed units of Clinical Pastoral Education.

·       Working toward certification in a professional chaplaincy organization.

·       Three years’ experience as a Chaplain in a health care organization.

·       Endorsement/standing from the chaplain’s faith tradition.

·       Demonstrated ability to function as a member of a spiritual care team with a diverse workforce.

·       Excellent interpersonal and counseling skills, especially in crisis situations.

·       Demonstrated ability to effectively support patients, families and associates in a wide range of physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.

·       Functional knowledge of Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Healthcare.

·       Competency in educating about and supporting the creation and implementation of advance directives.
