Job Summary Overview:

Under the direction of the care-site Executive Director, the Development Manager is an integral member of the care-site Foundation team and will work collaboratively to provide the information necessary to further the fundraising goals of the care-site Foundation. This position is primarily responsible for the coordination of care-site fundraising programs and acts as a liaison to fundraising programs or services provided by the system-level Philanthropy office. The successful candidate will solicit gifts, provide stewardship, produce development proposals, plan and oversee events and coordinate annual giving efforts.

Essential responsibilities include:

  • Along with the system-level Senior Director of Philanthropic Services, execute strategies around Annual Giving, Grateful Patient and Associate Giving resulting in increased revenue through cultivation, solicitation and stewardship

  • Plan and oversee all Foundation events

  • Along with the system-level Director of Data and Philanthropic Systems, oversee the integrity and ongoing growth of the donor database

  • Conduct gift-processing procedures

  • Coordinate care-site stewardship initiatives, including, but not limited to, donor acknowledgements and naming opportunities

  • Coordinate care-site grant program and support the regional and system-wide grant programs

  • Assist with Foundation Board of Directors support

  • Provide excellent customer service, both internally and externally


    The Development Manager will report directly to the care-site Executive Director.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Annual Giving/Associate Giving Responsibilities:

  • Along with the system-level Senior Director of Philanthropic Services, execute strategies to build a comprehensive community annual giving program for both individuals and businesses, expanding the program each year as measured by dollars raised and levels of donor participation. Program includes lower-level individual donors, associate giving, honor and memorial giving, grateful patient program, volunteer giving and direct mail.

  • Play a key role by identifying, qualifying, cultivating, personally soliciting and stewarding donors and friends with capacity to make annual gifts.

  • Provide input on the design, production and mailing of each Annual Giving acquisition, retention and stewardship piece.
  • Achieve annual fundraising and activity goals.
  • Collaborate with Major and Planned Giving teams to ensure a coordinated approach to special gift prospects.
  • Identify prospects through direct mail, events, prospect research data, referrals from associations and physicians, board members, volunteers, and other staff who may qualify as annual giving prospects.
  • Manage the care-sites grateful patient donor acquisition program to encourage hospital patients to make gifts in recognition of caregivers who have made a positive impression on them.
  • Work with the system-level Philanthropy office to manage the annual associate giving campaign at the care-site.
  • Work with the care-site Executive Director and system-level Senior Director of Philanthropic Services to create the annual budget for the Annual Giving program.
  • Assist in the analysis of each direct mail effort and make suggestions about future
  • mailings based on results from the analysis.
  • Serve as the Foundations primary contact with the system-level Senior Director of Philanthropic Services.

Donor Data Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the database is maintained in a manner that will provide prompt and accurate delivery of information for fund raising, cultivation and acknowledgements.
  • Work with the system-level Director of Data and Philanthropic Systems to run queries and reports effectively and deliver in a timely manner.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Raisers Edge by attending trainings and user groups as appropriate, as well as utilizing online resources.
  • Take inquiries from donors regarding their records and ensure that these are handled using excellent customer service skills and, as needed, communicate this to other staff.
  • Assist donors with record updates, mail status, replacement acknowledgement letters, and other requests as needed.
  • Develop and plan method of collecting participant and gift information from special events.

Special Events

  • Plan and execute all foundation-specific special events.
  • Analyze each special event and makes suggestions about future events based on results from the analysis.

Stewardship

  • Coordinate care-site stewardship initiatives, including, but not limited to, donor acknowledgements and naming opportunities.

  • Work with the system-level Senior Director of Philanthropic Services on the care-sites annual stewardship gift mailing.
  • Manage the donor acknowledgement process by sending letters in a timely manner and updating content at least twice a year.

Gift Processing Responsibilities:

  • Add/edit constituent records in donor database according to data protocols and standards.

  • Process online and manual credit card transactions.

  • Manage collection and reporting of data including grateful patient and associate giving.

  • Process associate giving program donations.

  • Process weekly reports for Executive Director and others as needed.

Grant Program Management & Support
  • Work with care-site staff and system level grant team to identify, develop and coordinate modest grant opportunities.
  • Support system level grant team in developing larger and regional grant proposals.
  • Coordinate and manage care-site grant reporting activities.
Other Responsibilities:
  • Attend regular department and organization-wide meetings.

  • Support the care-site Executive Director in Board management best practices.

  • Develop, create and seek out new and better ways to conduct duties of this position. Strive to make work processes more efficient. Implement cost-saving measures whenever possible. Bring forward ideas that may result in improvements in revenue generation.

  • Assist the care-site Executive Director with other duties as assigned.

Education/ Experience

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors Degree required, preferably in a related field.

  • 2-3 years of successful experience in fundraising or comparable activity.

  • Able to manage a vast amount of detail with accuracy, accountability, and confidentiality.

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively with diplomacy, integrity, and dependability.

  • Ability to occasionally work outside of office hours to assist with Foundation events.

  • Extensive computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft office software.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and database aptitude.

  • Ability to work tactfully and confidentially with sensitive information; ability to work independently.

  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Healthcare experience a plus.

  • Experience with fundraising donor databases, Raisers Edge a plus.
