Performs venipuncture for adults, children and infants, including micro-collection techniques. Performs specimen procedures and collection procedures as required. Processes and prepares specimens for screening. Appropriately utilizes stains, fixative and reagents.
Receives and enters orders as appropriate. Enters patient data in test requisitions. Receives, labels and delivers specimens. Processes specimens for send out to referral laboratories. Monitors computer errors and maintenance of hardware. Enters results for referred specimens. Researches and resolves any questionable patient orders.
Reviews and evaluates completed tests for quality, accuracy, and completeness. Assists in maintaining the laboratory section to CLIA , CAP and Joint Commission standards and regulatory requirements. Performs proficiency testing as required by accrediting agencies.
Documents and communicates information thoroughly and accurately. Utilizes equipment according to departmental guidelines, maintaining all equipment as per guidelines. Ensures equipment and supplies are maintained in appropriate working order. Evaluates and utilizes inventory appropriately, assists with inventory control as needed.
Assists with maintaining filing systems of slides, blocks, specimens, reports, requisitions. Prepares reagents and chemicals as needed. Utilizes clerical skills to perform job functions with minimal errors. Handles specimens/slides/logs/worklists appropriately and with confidentiality. Assists with point of care testing, reception, front desk, and phlebotomy duties as assigned. Assists/performs patient registration duties as assigned.
Maintains a neat and clean work area. Disposes of waste appropriately. Cleans bench areas and equipment. Restocks supplies as appropriate. Maintains the washroom and performs washroom functions as appropriate.

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Laboratory work experience appropriate for duties required. (On the job training available.)
Preferred:Bachelors degree or equivalent; knowledge of laboratory information systems. Data entry skills and phlebotomy skills. Appropriate education and experience to be eligible for the national MT or MLT registry exam.
MLT/MLS certification preferred
