The Operating Room offers 4 Surgery Suites + 1 Endoscopy suite performing basic surgery services, primarily general surgery, orthopedic, and GYN.
Under direct supervision, the Surgery Technician is responsible for assisting with the preparation of the operating room and instruments for assigned surgical cases. He/she anticipates the needs of the doctor before and during the procedure, assists in the clean up of the room and instruments after the procedure, takes Surgery call. The tech must attend all required in-services, no less than 6 staff meetings per year, and must maintain current CPR certification. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Core competencies: Age Specific, Compliance and computerized annual required education (HealthStream); additional competencies as defined by Department Director.
Education: High school graduate or G.E.D. preferred. Registration as Surgical Assistant or Surgical Technologist with the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies pursuant to C.R.S. 12-43.2-101 required prior to working. CPR required by completion of the unit-specific orientation and before working independently.
Experience: 1 year of scrubbing experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities: Clinical knowledge of sterile technique, with demonstrated ability to actively use this knowledge before and during the surgical procedure. This job may require the employee to be responsible for the assessment, treatment, or care of patients of all ages, including child, adolescent, and geriatric. Consequently, the employee must be competent in the interpretation of a patient's self-report or behavior, and this information must be interpreted with an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological maturation process. The treatment of patients should be individualized and should reflect an understanding of the developmental needs and range of treatment needs for each patient. (See “Competency Assessment” policy)
