Platte Valley Medical Center became the first private general medical/surgical hospital in Adams and Southern Weld counties in 1960. Today, Platte Valley Medical Center is a community-based, acute care hospital and Level III Trauma Center boasting 98 beds.


RN ED - Emergency Department

Part Time (1300-0100)

2 days/week - Varied Days


Performs the primary functions of an RN in triaging, assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care of patients of the unit during his/her shift, according to Emergency Department polices and procedure, TJC and standards of Emergency Practice, the Colorado Nurse Practice Act, and COBRA.  Responsible for managing all assigned personnel, supplies and equipment on the unit, and for promoting teamwork with physicians and personnel of other departments.  Is able to function independently with only occasional or limited supervision.  Participates in assigned departmental duties and projects, including involvement in yearly goals and objectives.  Performs all other duties as assigned.
Core competencies:  Medication Administration, Restraint Use, General Assessment, Pain Management, Falls, Blood Administration, Emergent Blood Administration, Age Specific, Compliance and computerized annual required education (HealthStream); additional competencies as defined by Department Director.

Required:  graduate of an accredited school of nursing; current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Colorado.  CPR required by completion of the unit-specific orientation and before working independently.  ACLS, TNCC, and ENPC are required within 6 months of employment.  NIHSS is required within 3 months of employment.  CEN preferred and PALS strongly suggested. 
1 year medical/surgical acute care preferred. 
ER or critical care experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities: Pursues programs of continuing education to further knowledge base.  Participates in educational conferences and updates and maintains professional knowledge and skills related to areas of responsibility. Attends mandatory in-services as required by Platte Valley Medical Center.  Is required to attend 75% of staff meetings per year.  This job may require the employee to be responsible for the assessment, treatment, or care of patients of all ages, including neonate, child, adolescent, and geriatric.  Consequently, the employee must be competent in the interpretation of a patient's self-report or behavior, and this information must be interpreted with an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological maturation process.  The treatment of patients should be individualized and should reflect an understanding of the developmental needs and range of treatment needs for each patient.
