Located in Grand Junction, CO at St. Mary's Medical Center, the Sr. Construction Project Manager is responsible for planning and managing the facility development and construction process for a series of major complex capital projects to include:


  • Project schedules running between 3-5 years
  • Cumulative project budgets in excess of $100,000,000


Scope of this responsibility involves ability to achieve budget, scope and schedule goals, applicable regulatory requirements, and Exempla’s standards for quality. Effectively collaborates with senior management and regulatory agencies while leading the work of project teams including facility administration, in-house consultants, architects, engineers, general contractors and contracted specialty consultants.

Establishes and secures management support for project's scope, budget and goals.

·         Oversees the development and management of project team and ensures timely performance of individual team members.

·         Leads team in establishing scope, budget, and schedule and maintains such commitments through planning, design, construction and close-out processes.

·         Negotiates with local and state jurisdictions to achieve appropriate interpretation of regulatory requirements.

·         Manages project progress, communicates goals and project status with facility leadership, and facilitates final resolution of unresolved issues.

·         Evaluates and provides guidance during the general and detailed planning, design, contract documents, bid, construction administration, and close-out phases.

·         Makes economic comparisons of development schemes, recommending options in alignment with broader building master plan strategies to provide future growth and flexibility while minimizing the possibility of future costly changes.

·         Administers quality assurance and risk management programs for all projects.

·         Manages architect, engineer, general contractor and special consultant/contractor selection process and negotiation of fees and contract terms.

·         Assures proper execution of all terms of architect, engineer and construction contracts including contract deliverables, change orders, payments, and close-out.

·         Remains flexible in all aspects of work-related actions.

·         Recognizes responsibility as an agent of SCL Health’s and acts accordingly in all matters.


Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction or Project Management or equivalent working experience.


Knowledge of preparing contract documents, fixed price, guaranteed maximum price, legal implications of design/build required. 


Knowledgeable in principles of architecture, engineering and construction. 


Extensive experience of 8-12 years in leading and managing design and construction activities for hospital and medical office buildings. 


Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


Proficient in computer technology, scheduling and cost estimating software.


Professional license/registration/certification preferred.


Highly prefer healthcare construction management experience.
